Company Profile
History: Pacific Power Batteries is a privately held "C" corporation which started selling batteries in 1985. Originally, we began selling Starting, Lighting and Ignition (SLI) batteries from a subleased room of 12' X 12' at Paine Field near Everett. We ran our sales of batteries from a 1 ton jobber van to logging and construction companies as well as some of the local municipalities and some branches of the military. In 1987, we opened our first leased retail store in Marysville WA. In 1992, we opened our 2nd leased retail store in Everett, WA, 12 miles south of Marysville. In 1995, the Everett store moved into its own purchased location on the corner of 38th and Broadway and built a 6000 square foot retail store, warehouse and office. One year later, the Marysville store moved into its own purchased location on the corner of 8th and Cedar. Marysville's newly built facility included 1800 square feet of retail space complimented by over 14,000 square feet of office space and heated self-storage units in the same complex. The two stores were built as a result of the increased demand for other batteries such as sealed AGM Marine and RV batteries. Later, we added battery inventory for alarm systems, emergency power UPS (uninterrupted power supply) systems, and larger telephone systems. The demand for Alkaline, Ni-Cad, Li-Ion, Li-Polymer continues to expand as people demand more power for their portable electronics. Never wanting to say "no" to any battery demand, the company owners continue to widen the inventory of batteries for consumer electronics, specialty, and alternative energy (solar and wind) products. While our competition focuses on the NASCAR market, our focus is on the quiet, behind the scenes business of portable and back-up power. In 1998, we purchased our first electrode welder which enables us to build custom battery assemblies for rebuilding packs for laptop computers, camcorders, tools and obsolete (but valued!) items. Some of the most unusual packs include those sold for salmon migration buoys, night vision goggles and gun sights, subterranean water meters, and interactive pagers. Some of our larger customers include Westin Hotels, US Army, Air Force, Navy, Providence Hospitals, and many municipalities throughout the USA. Some of the most fun sales are for the 12/24 volt kiddy cars from Fisher Price. Large or small, we enjoy selling batteries of all types even if we have to build it and install it (did I mention the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse batteries?). Currently: As new suppliers (as there are now over 150 vendors) and product knowledge increases, our projection for the fiscal year 2003-2004 is just over $2 million. Our written goal is to have 12 company and independently owned franchised stores in the Puget Sound area. Our website serves as our "virtual store." With current customers as close as next door and as far away as Indonesia, Singapore, Germany and the Caribbean we find that knowledge, service and price are king in the virtual world, just as we have learned in the retail/wholesale brick and mortar business since 1985. Often, our web business involves brokering batteries from our networks of trusted distributors and suppliers. Why should a 3500 lb. forklift battery come from our warehouse if our Wisconsin, Louisiana or California suppliers have them in stock to your specification? Innovation is the key to our company's success. When you buy a battery from us, we are the ones who guarantee your satisfaction. Our stores are flushed with batteries for everything (our trademarked slogan is "Batteries for Everything"). Our product list is lengthy with over 5200 different SKU items in stock, we sell batteries for Auto and Truck Alkaline Manganese (flashlight types) On and Off Road Tractors Motorcycle and Jet Skis Marine and RV's Custom Built Packs UPS/Telecom AGM and Gelled Electrolyte Lithium Primary, Lithium-Ion, and Lithium Polymer Electric Tools Electronics of all Types Cellular, Pager and PCS Photo, Digital Photo & Camcorder Burglar Alarms Inverters, Converters & Chargers & Maintainers Battery Test Equipment Solar Modules, Controllers and Racking Wind Generators and Towers Toys Emergency Lighting/Exits Computers: Laptops, PDA's and Desktops 2-way Radios Watches and Micro-electronics We also stock most of the Name Brand batteries that are known to all: Stocking Item Brands. Our Stores are often described as "fun" to shop. The floors are waxed and shiny, the lights are bright, there is no mess, the showroom has background music, and our staff members are dressed in uniforms of red shirts and black pants (exhibiting the positive and eliminating the negative!). We have the Alternative Energy (AE) area where customers can sit, read, watch an AE educational video or discuss their needs for solar panels, wind generators, or inverters for their homes, boats, or RV's. Our in-store displays of wind generators and a working 1 kilowatt solar generation/grid tied system, such as at Marysville, serve as a learning tool for photovoltaic (PV) enthusiasts. For kids, we set up solar water pumping and pedal generator displays that make the store more fun and a place to learn about electricity. We sell electric bicycles, scooters and Golf Cars for all types of fun. Our selection of batteries is unmatched and competitively priced. Many of our customers are referred from other retailers who know that we have the best selection of batteries and battery related products. Future: Soon we will be offering franchised stores of Pacific Power Batteries within the area that can be served by our Everett store and a logistics warehouse. Our satellite stores include inventory, trained personnel, existing customers and a positive bottom line after being in business for one year. We are looking for interested, ambitious people who want to own their own business, feel a part of their community, and yet want something that is already started and profitable with support from an experienced support system and management. We offer training and technical support as well as a direct computer DSL link to our hub and all of the inventory in the stores at their fingertips. Once trained, who better knows how to train new people than the new owner? The owner is responsible for everything from the disposal of cores to the financing of the business and the care and maintenance of the commercial, wholesale and retail customers. The franchisee will be trained to keep the business focused on the top and bottom lines of their business. Ownership and daily involvement lead to success. Our Burlington and Monroe stores are perfect examples of stores that will franchise well (we are just now beginning to market these stores for sale). We believe that since these stores have now reached the point in sales and expenses that have allowed them to be profitable, it is time to sell them to someone who can take them to the next level of profitability as the new owner networks, sells and works on the growth of the business. By making new contacts and business relationships the Pacific Power Batteries stores will continue to grow in sales and profit. If you are interested in buying an existing or newly sited Pacific Power Batteries store, then we encourage you to contact Steve Ahmann, the company President at sahmann@pacificpowerbatteries.com . Batteries Plus has a similar type of business with over 200 stores and we believe that we have a better way of doing business that can be more profitable with less up-front investment of capital. This business is vibrant, varied and limitless! Respectfully Submitted, Pacific Power Batteries Steve Ahmann President |
